I teach writing with the fundamental philosophy that nobody is a “bad writer” – there are only writers who need to practice. And every writer needs to practice.
My first employment as a writing tutor was at 17, when I worked with younger teens, helping them to craft stories that used their imagination while reflecting their experiences. Since then I have taught and mentored primary school students, more teens, and adults.
I identify as Queer, and have run workshops specifically for LGBTQIA+ people, as well as disabled, and have run groups for people with a broad range of disabilities. I have my ACT Working With Vulnerable People Card.
Content
With a group workshop, I can tailor it specifically to the subject area you are interested in and/or the make-up of your group. Broadly, I specialise in the following subject areas:
- Poetry
- Creating Characters
- Writing Dialogue
- Literary Technique (Foreshadowing/Metaphor/Juxtaposition/Motif, etc)
- Making Grammar Fun! (I am a descriptivist)
This does not mean that I cannot work with an alternative subject matter, but I may have to charge an additional fee for writing the new materials.
Fees
For workshops, I charge a flat fee of $200 an hour, but for longer time periods, this fee is negotiable. A discount applies for community organisations where the fee would be prohibitive.
